  • I've always bought Indesit, must have had 4 or 5 over the years, they're cheap as chips and the cheapest model is almost clockwork so not too much to go wrong. I even had one with a drum leak mended with a pot washer for a couple of years before I bit the bullet and replaced it, although it still wasn't leaking!

Helen, I have mine plumbed into hot and cold supply but I have to run the kitchen hot tap until it starts running hot - long way from the hot water tank - otherwise the first wash uses the water in the hot pipe, which will have gone cold, and just a bit of hot as it comes through. Hope this makes sense, it did to me when I wrote it ! Hope this helps.

We bought our Bosch from a local supplier, who sells new stuff and stuff that is graded. It has a tiny little chip on the paint work but other than that was perfect, and is still working like it was when we bought it.

I was told that he gets things from catalogues that have been damaged very slightly, this service is available nationwide and our washer was £100 cheaper and you can't even notice the chip, it also came with the bosch full 2 year warranty.

Also because he was an independent seller we taked him down a bit on the price too.

I know there are shops on ebay doing similar graded items(smeg fridges etc.) Hope this helps.

This is my brother's website which has been mentioned a few times on this forum last year. I have just recommended it in 'referrals'. Hope there's something of interest for you

  • We buy Ariston, the first one lasted 11 years and was still going strong although the casing had rusted quite badly. Only repair it ever had was a new pump at about the 7 year mark, I think it was about £40 and a door seal due to an over-exuberant child. The one we have now is just over 4 years old, still looks new and working perfectly at the moment (touch wood). It also has a 30 minute quick wash which is good for lightly soiled items although I wouldn't trust it to my work clothes.

Both were the cheapest 'fast' spin machines at the time (1200 and 1600 respectively).

I got a Hoover in January for just under £200 with delivery and take my old machien awaye. It is AAB energy efficent and has 1400 spin seems fine to us, doenst require hot water, just cold feed.

I used a voucher for Currys and shoped via Quidco.

    Model is Hoover HPB145 1400
  • we just bought a zanussi from john lewis for £229. free delivery, 1400 spin, seems to be very good. major plus for us is john lewis give an extra years manufacturers warranty for free. if you buy a john lewis own brand you get 3 years free warranty. we have had a servis and an indesit which both had to be repaired in first year and broke not long after the warranty expired.

We bought an Ariston as an emergency in 1999 ( old one packed in no clean school clothes and it was the only one under £200 we could take home that day kind of emergency)

It has been fine, there was a recall on the seal or the catch can't remember which and they came ans fixed it (touch wood) it's never broken down or leaked. I think Ariston & Indesit are one company now.....
