My Dell computer came with AOL software alrteady installed. I use McAfee Security Suite and have tried to remove the AOL stuff but everytime I turn the computer on the AOL SP is still running. When I try to remove it I get the message 'no installed versions of AOL could be found on your computer'. Also now and again it seems AOL is performing a scan! How do I get rid of the AOL stuff?

Start, Run, Type, msconfig in startup remove aol.
Also remove it from add/remove programs in control panel.
And delete any icons that are left on the desktop after add/remove
also delete any AOL folders via windows explorer.0 -

Agreed what intel says, and I hate to spoil things even more, BUT there is likely to be more spyware stuff in-built by those kind folk at Dell. One such is the "MyWay search bar" and all related stuff.
If you want to investigate what's on your PC, and how to fix it, then let us know. There are steps you will need to take and it may be a complex process.
Dell have imbedded this stuff into their PCs so that it's quite difficult even to find let alone remove.
No .... I don't know why they did it either (despite what they say on their website about it)0 -
Thanks for the advice - It seems to have stopped AOL SP running. Every time I start up I have 46 applications running and start up appears slow. Is this excessive? I don't know whether I am up to anything too techy!!!0
