I am responsible for the recent closure of high street shops...

...and it has been confirmed today by Sainsburys sales announcement.

I have stopped shopping on the high street. Parking in my local town is extortionate.

If I need a book I don't go to Waterstones...I go to the supermarket (it's cheaper)

If I need clothes I don't go to Debenhams....I go to the supermarket (it's cheaper)

If I need birthday cards I don't go to Clintons....I go to the supermarket

If I need housewares I don't go to Woolworths...I go to the supermarket.

Supermarkets have essentially won in the battle as they have free parking and offer the same( if not more) products as the high street and very often at a cheaper price.

The High street has no chance....

(n.b shops named above are just random!)

  • I'm glad it's you...I was thinking it was me, except if I want a book I go the the local charity shop or the laundramatte (sp?) in the village because they charge twenty pence per book and give the money to charity as well.

At Christmas I bought some books from Amazon and flowers online from Sendabunch.

I don't shop at any of the stores that have closed down.

When I heard on the news before that S/burys had a great Christmas, I said that it was down to us. We bought our turkey and some other stuff there, I usually go to Asda.

Other half said I didn't really spend enough, and my comment to that was 'Every little helps' :D

You are right. As much as I hate the monopoly, places like Debenhams, Argos, Whsmiths, Clintons are very expensive compared. The only places that you will be able to buy anything, are from very very expensive shops or tat at Tescos. It's awful.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Thing is, the other stores mentioned have also made high streets anonymous and less great to shop in. In our rural area we have no book shop chains very locally, but luckiliy a wonderful independant, and even better an amazing secound hand bookshop selection, oh and a Book Ends. I'm as bored of huge chains as I am of supermarkets: supermarket dominance seems a natural -and terrible-progression from the huge chains.

The reason is that lots of people detest and actually hate shopping especially when it's busy.

Therefore if you happened to be in a large supermarket to get your groceries but see a game or toy that would suit a certain person for a present then you put it in your basket/trolley.

Oh and I brought a lot of people alcohol for Christmas. Supermarkets - Large Sainsburys, large Tesco and small Co-ops do sell good stuff.

Unfortunately I realised how sad I was when I confessed to younger relations where most of my presents came from.

The reason I felt I was sad as I have always been pointing out to the more adventurous ones the people in our family and friends who are well off in more ways than one, are the ones who own their own business.

I think you might find it is "each other's"....
