Speeding on M74 - How many points ?

This looks like an excellent forum. Hopefully I wont have too many questions like this.

On Saturday Dec 27th I was driving south on the M74 and was caught by a 'safety camera'. I got the standard letter in a few days later asking to confirm I was driving. I have already responded.

Key part though is the speed. Claimed to be 86mph. To be honest this is probably reasonable.

What points am I likely to get ?

This is only my second UK speeding ticket in 30 years of driving, so not a disaster. However anyone any idea what I'm likely to get ?

PS, ticket issued by Dumfries and Galloway police on motorway.....

I'm assuming the limit was 70mph (not much doubt about that).

The notorious van parked on the bridge just after the bad bend no doubt.It catches an enormous amount of people out.

Did you not see the huge camera warning signs? They were there on the 23rd and 28th Dec when I used it.

It was the van on the overpass. I thought it was an ambulance, but was overtaking with someone close behind me, so couldn't really slow down safely or fast enough.

Didn't see any signs unfortunately.

However, 3 points is not too bad. I was a bit worried in case it would be maybe 6........

Which bad bend? Is it not normally at Ecclefechan?

Although I have seen it once at Crawford which induced near heart failure
