Two Monitors - One Laptop Set-Up for Karaoke!

What is best way of setting up a laptop that can run an external monitor and its own independently of each other? Would need to be able to have the lyrics on external screen, whilst at the same time lining up the next track on the internal screen.

It is for a children's karaoke party!! :eek::eek::eek:

Plug in the second monitor. Open Powerpoint, then drag it onto the other monitor. Maxmimise, and press F5. Put your lyrics on there.

I'm not terribly sure if it shows uup on one or two monitors.
