Smoke Pollution

Hi

I have recently moved into a new flat, in a new build development.

Although really happy wih the flat our neighbours stay beneath us, smoke heavily, which ends up leaving our house smell like a pub.

I know that there are certain requirements which have to be reached by the builder, in terms of sound transmission between properties, but does anyone know of any building requirements which have to be achieved with in terms of smell transmission.

Any help would be great as the constant smell of second hand smoke is doin my head in!

I've worked a little in the building trade and have never heard of 'smell' regulations for construction, but that's not to say there aren't any.

It's heavy going, and you'll need broadband, but all the UK building regs can be downloaded freely from the Office of The Deputy Prime Minister here - http://www.odpm.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1130478

If they exist they'll be in there.
