advice on 2nd ever Credit Card

what is the recommended period to wait between receiving first credit card and applying for /upgrading to one with better personal benefits? I have had a capital one classic (massive interest one, just to get credit rating going) for about 5 months im thinking. Really need one with commision free foreign purchases. thanks,

Well I guess for most people it would be when the benefits or 0% period expires.

  • My old bank (lloyds) wouldnt even give me a debit card on my current account. I applied for a capital one in nov 2007 and after posting id etc got card with £500 limit. Changed to natwest same time and they gave me debit card but declined credit card. I applied again in aug 08 and was accepted with £2k limit, and have just had my gold card with another 2k limit today (natwest again) and been accepted today for barclaycard gold, so takes about 12 months i guess to improve rating and would also add im not on electoral roll so they are going off my past 12 months history with cap1 card and mobile etc
