Pay while waiting for outcome of appeal?
scope
I am currently waiting for a reply to my appeal against a parking ticket I got on new years day. I fully expect to win as the sign next to my car said it was fine to park between certain hours, however in the unlikely event I loose (if I for some reason has misread anything), would I be better paying the fine prior to the 14 days to get it at the discounted rate of £50, and worry about a refund later,or shall I leave it while they process the appeal?

As this a council ticket or a private parking company?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

If a council PCN could you mention which council issued it?
Also if you could scan and upload it (don't bother if it's a private company), someone may be able to help, there are guidelines in the welcome sticky on how to do it and what information to blank out

The ticket was issued by Wandsworth council.
From reading their website it appears they have to offer the discounted price if an appeal is rejected - which answers my question.

A word of warning - for readers more than yourself.
They do not 'have' to extend the discount period, there is no such legal requirement.
What it says on a website would probably be irrelevant.
However, it so happens that Wandsworth PCNs do say they will extend the discount period and it follows that they could almost certainly be held to that.
Newham, as another example, do the same for hand served PCNs.
The warning though is that many don't. Many say they will 'normally', generally' etc. -which holds them to nothing IMV.
Some Councils do not. Read your PCNs peeps!

In any case- payment before any decision would close the case.

Just out of interest. What makes you confident?0

Like I said, I might have mis-understood the rules, but I was parked as per the photo, and got a ticket a 12pm (noon), even though, as far as I can see, the sign clearly states the restrictions as between 7-10am and 4-7pm. This is on a bus lane, but it is only enforced for the same times (7-10, 4-7). It has a single yellow line.
I have parked there when visiting my parents in law for over 10 years, and nothing has changed in terms of the parking as far as I know.
What do you guys think?0 -
On the face of that I agree but you have a problem. What contravention code - I'll guess '01' parked in a restricted street - yes?
You need to check if you were in a CPZ and that sign may only be showing additional restrictions to those that apply to the whole zone and are signed at entry points.

The PCN says: "01 - Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours"
I was parked in the L1 section of this map:

How I as a visitor is meant to know about CPZs is beyond me, its not like we have a lack of signs driving down the road, there certainly isnt any signs around the car saying I am allowed to park, or not.. Other than the sign above.0 -
So is it a CPZ? How are you supposed to know - yeah funny if you don't have them in your own locale but pretty sizeable signs at entry points.
Mind you, the signs have to be at every entrance to the CPZ and in most cases on both sides of the street.
CPZ maps are often somewhere on Council websites so you can find all the entry points. Technically it only takes one to be missing and the blanket restrictions of single yellows become invalid.0 -
Ah! Sorry just read your link and obviously you've done the required research.
yep, they certainly got the rest of those hours covered didn't they.
Not a very big zone to check entry points? i'll find sign image for you when i get a mo.0
