Sydney May 2006

Hi i am looking for some help in finding a good deal on a holiday to sydney.

We want to get married in sydney at the opera house and have found someone to sort that out over there but still need to get the flights and accomodation sorted.

Ideally we would like to leave on the 21st may and return on the 4th of june but the 21st is not a fixed date and is flexible to be later but no earlier. Would also like to use a quality airline such as BA or quantas because 24 hours on a plane is a long time and if there was only a small difference in cost between having 2 changes and 24 hours in the air and 3 changes and 28hrs i would be willing to pay that.

We would prob be travelling from glasgow or edingburgh but could prob arrange to get to manchester or even london if the deals were significantly cheaper.

We would like to stay centrally within easy reach of the main features and ideally as it is our wedding and honeymoon combined would like a good quality hotel.

The wife to be has one more request however i dont know if it is feasible or not. she would like to visit the neighbours set when we are there i know it is in melbourne but if it is a logistical nightmare i think we would just leave this and concentrate on Sydneys attractions.

Thank you for your help with this.

Alex.

Emirates fly from Glasgow via Dubai and Singapore to Sydney. I've seen the W hotel at Woolloomooloo http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/search/hotel_detail.html?arrivalDate=&departureDate=&lengthOfStay=&numberOfRooms=&numberOfAdults=&requestedChainCode=&requestedAffiliationCode=&promotionCode=&iATANumber=&ratePlanName=&starwoodPreferredGuest=&rcdi=&propertyID=1295&fromSearch=44FF looks great and very well located.

There are lots of flights between Sydney and Melbourne and it only takes about 1.5 hours.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Ramsey Street (or Pin Oak Court is it's real name) is in Vermont South, about 30 mins out of Melbourne if I remember rightly. I got a bus out there from Melbourne centre. I think they do tours.

It's not much to look at, but if you're a die-hard fan then it certainly makes a good cheesy photo to have the pair of you stood in the street.

In Sydney there's a great hotel just by the harbour bridge that looks out across the harbour and opera house. I can't for the life of me remember the name of it though, (someone else may be able to help you there).

Also give www.traveljungle.co.uk a go for the flights. I would imagine you should get a good deal in May, cos it's approaching their winter then.
Like a priceless jewel buried in dark layers of soil and stone, earth radiates her brilliant beauty into the caverns of space and time.

Stately trees seem to brush the deep blue sky. Clouds billow to form magestic peaks. The songs of birds fill the air creating symphony upon symphony

There are FAR better quality airlines than these two!

Look at this excellent thread by albalad

There's a link to airline quality which may help you choose who to spend 24hrs with, plus loads of other great info.

    Enjoy

We did Australia last year with Emirates via Dubai and Singapore and appreciated the fact that that routing split the 24 hours up into three segments each 7-8 hours.

Service was great and the shopping in Dubai amazing!

There are usually several offers on Emirates but I don't know about May/June yet.

In Australia, check-out the Qantas RED deals on domestic flights. Virgin Blue do deals too, but on a more limited range of flights I think. They can be booked on line.

thanks for all your advice we are still looking. Have found a flight package aberdeen>london>sydney then sydney>melbourne then melbourne>london>aberdeen. All in all best price i can get this for is £749.90 per person with quantas 24hrs there and 27 hrs back. Think we will stay at the sofitel wentworth. Its got a load of good reviews on trip advisor and i found a section of thier main site that you can get a special deal where you can get 20% off thier rooms but they do have a no refund clause in this deal. For melbourne we will just go holiday inn for cheapness. Sould be good looking to go diving in sydney supposed to be ace like.

Again thanks for all your help and if there is anything else something thinks of give me a shout.

    Cheers
