We had a very successful quiz evening, a bit like a sociable pub quiz, with small tables seating groups of 4-6 people (could be more/less), mainly parents/families/friends. We charged £2 per ticket in advance and served wine and juice for a small charge. We had the usual music/general knowledge bits, plus hilarious 'guess': 'the taste'; 'the smell' and 'feel whats in the box' sections. It was really good fun, we all got to know each other, and raised a fair bit of money.

what about a family quiz - a list of questions on an A4 sheet - sell them for £1 per sheet for the children to take home and return in 3 weeks when the winner will be selected. The children will buy them and take them home and forget about them - but you've already got your £1! And if you get more than 1 entry with all the correct answers you just draw the winner from the hat. We did one in work which was things like pop groups and songs - with just the initial letters: e.g. Q - BR which is of course Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody. You can have a theme, (just missed Christmas so perhaps party songs?) W - WMUBYGG - Wham - wake me up before you go go etc.

how about doing something like buying one of the reduced harrods hampers and selling raffle tickets say the hamper costs £30 sell the tickets at £3 each that way you only have to sell 10m to recover the cost and the chances are if its something from harrods loads of people would buy a ticket

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Charities board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

We've had some similar threads over there so I hope you'll be able to find them, if not I'll do a search'n'merge tomorrow.

Are you NCPTA members ? There are tons of ideas on their website, pm me if you need a bit of help to access it.

Kids love school discos. DJs are £50-£100. We charge £2.50 per child including a bottle of water and a bag of crisps. Generally making £400-£600.

The Christmas Pudding company is great for Christmas puds with a pic drawn by your pupils as a label.

We've done chocolate quizes - name the chocolate from the clue given eg. A ___ a day helps you work, rest and play. £1 per entry to win a tin of chocolates.

Bingo is easy. Tickets are available from Baker Ross. £15 worth should keep you going for a few years. We borrow a bingo machine from the local old peoples centre. Use selection boxes at Christmas, Easter eggs at Easter. £20 should sort you out for prizes.

We've also done wine tasting evenings. £10 per head. 6 wines to try. 6 bottles to a table of 8 with a cheese board and raffle the last one raised £400 with 60 people.
Traditional Fayres are the biggest money spinner of the year. Our summer fayre generally raises £3k with face painting, coloured hairspray, fake tatoos, coconut shie and bouncy castle being the biggest fund raisers.

We've tried film nights in the school hall - Wallace and Grommit going down very well with everybody. No outlay as someone is bound to own a copy and schools already have have public media licences.

Quiz nights are fun too.

The best thing we've done all year has to be (name of school)s got talent - an X-factor type thing where each class chose a representative act and a panel of invited guests selected winners. Prizes were vouchers for the winning classes to buy indoor games for using during wet play time. It was done during school without charge but could easily have been put on as an evening performance for parents.
Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.50

Guide to holding a Beetle Drive.

Could be a useful catalogue to get hold of too. Similar to Baker Ross, I suspect.

We do the 5p challenge: each class has to collect as many 5p's the class with the most wins a prize (sweets or small toy) we made £180 profit on this and hardly any work needed.

Car wash
Fetes

We do camping & BBQ on the school field, family pays £5 to pitch their tent and you have games, a BBQ, Hot chocolate, sing song, etc....

2nd hand school uniforms
Bingo Night
Non-uniform days - £1 a child soon mounts up
One of the hairdressing mums holds a kids hair cutting session giving up half the money to the PTFA.

I did have a long list but I can't find it to hand. When I find it I'll post some more ideas.
• has anyone ever run a mothers room, basically a room in school where the children can buy presents for their mum for under £5. any ideas where to get presents free, will be asking for toiletry donations/ unwante gifts from parents
thanks
