But thanks to all the comments re marley and me I shall be heading down early tonight
Fair enough, point taken. However, I find majority of the time it's people who just couldn't be bothered cancelling and sometimes I hear at the cinema how people get hold of these tickets and bragging how they don't always turn up and it's those people who I am referring to as selfish because they happen to be the people who get it all the time!!!!! I know you are not one of those people but as you can imagine, it is frustrating for those who do miss out. And in your case, I'm sure Frost/Nixon would have been empty anyway.
Also, on the note of people forgetting, I'm sure where people would have paid for a ticket and it wasn't free, they would not forget so easily.0 -
Given that it is a STICKY that's NOT easy

I'm really sorry if this has already been asked because if you're a regular i'm sure thats really annoying! In my defence I have had a look through all the other posts to see!
Anyways so i've now been to see 2 screenings - shopaholic and marley and me...yay!
but this was through the sky perks..not managed to get any with all the other websites SFF etc yet. I am registered but personally never get the codes emailed to me but I do have a go when I see them on here. Just wondered how the people that post the codes up here get them? Thanks loads!0 -
I always cancel my tickets if I cant go (apart from last weeks Marley and Me. I just got out of the vet at about 4.30 having found out that my cat had cancer and I was too upset to get online to do so - sorry if that meant someone missed out here
)
Most of the screenings I go to are about 80-90% full.
Luckily I have never been turned away because the cinema is full. I did go to Wimbledon to find out they had given the wrong date out - but we just asked the nice lady in charge if we could just see something else for free and she agreed0 -

Lets be clear if you are assigned the tickets then it is reasonable to assume that you will get in after all when i have missed out on tickets the SFF system always says the screening is full.Quoia i have read the terms and conditions numerous times. They say they are allocated in good faith i dont call oversubscribing a screening and dissapointing 30 or so people an act of good faith on their part. My confidence has been restored somewhat in their reponse to the complaints which they have given us two tickets to a screening of our choice.
When an allocation is full it should mean full, to oversubscribe a screening in such a way is not acceptable and leads to situations like yesterday when people are turned away.As rummy has stated people are selfish when they either dont bother e-mailing SFF to cancel or act in a dishonest way the whole system needs a overhaul to stop people abusing it.Anyway i hope SFF do take on board the comments we MSE'ers have passed onto them and improve their system. Out of curiosity did anyone rate Marley and Me?0 -

Does that include yourself, when you use a SFF code that has been posted on MSE but has actually been published ONLY in Cosmopolitan magazine purely for Cosmopolitan readers that have mostly spent money and purchased a copy of the magazine ?
It's quite possible that the free preview screening was targetted specifically by the film distributor/promoter at a certain group of the population to gather the appropriate feedback - say perhaps mainly females aged 20 to 50 years old.
Maybe the film distributor/promoter knows that Cosmopolitan has a circulation of 150,000 and that generally only 1 out of 100 readers respond to an offer of this sort. At 2 tickets each that's 3000, so they organise with SFF that the Cosmopolitan code covers 20 cinemas at approximately 150 seats per screening.
That code appears on MSE, every Tom, !!!!!! & Harry, and their friends and families, and Uncle Tom Cobbly and all, dive in and grab all the tickets.
The genuine Cosmo reader/buyer can't get a ticket.
Then Tom, !!!!!! & Harry et al, fail to turn up at the screening.
The Cosmo readers dip out, SFF get shouted at because all the tickets have gone because the cinema is FULL (but at the actual screening it isn't), the film distributor/promoter loses out because it's not seen by enough people or the by the wrong sort of people for both the feedback required and the word of mouth advertising that is expected.
Let's stop this abuse.
I think I'll write to SFF and suggest that the next time there is to be a Cosmopolitan (or similar magazine) code for a preview that they don't bother with the "online code redemption" and make the tickets ONLY available by redeeming a coupon that's in the magazine,(so you'll have to BUY a copy of it) and that it is exchanged for genuine tickets for that particular screening at the box-office of each and every cinema involved before the day of the preview.
That'll stop it !
And a code that many on MSE would have taken advantage of, won't be published here and hundreds of us will dip out !
Now that's a plan and must be a step in the right direction.

I know the complaints are about SFF screenings but I just thought I'd post the terms and conditions when you get sky perk tickets.
TERMS & CONDITIONS: (1) Tickets are subject to availability and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis via the website. (2) Users who successfully claim tickets will need to print off the email with a valid booking number and take it along to the cinema on the day of the screening at the time given. (3) Possession of a ticket does not guarantee entry. In the event of an insufficiency of seats due to our standard overbooking policy to account for no-shows or a change in size of cinema screen, entry will be granted to ticket holders on a first come first served basis. (4) Unless otherwise stated, a maximum of 2 tickets are redeemable per user. Should a user exceed this maximum, Sky reserves the right to revoke tickets without notice. (5) No cash alternative. (6) No late admittance. (7) The cinemas reserve the right to refuse admission. In the event of a dispute, the cinema manager's decision is final. (8) In the event of a screening being cancelled, changed or relocated without prior notice , Sky may at its own discretion allocate tickets to the next Sky screening in the nearest cinema. No form of compensation, financial or otherwise will be given. (9) Should a screening be overbooked, Sky may at its own discretion allocate tickets to the next Sky screening in the nearest cinema. No form of compensation, financial or otherwise will be given.
Sorry there's so much to look and it's not the same as SFF. But Sky make it clear you might not gets tickets. Because of this I didn't tell my daughter why we were going into the cinema yesterday as if I didn't tell her she wouldn't be disappointed. We arrived at the cinema at 10.25. The cinema was probably 90% full and people were still turning up at 11.20 for a 11am screening.
Maybe SFF need to make things clearer if their conditions are the same.
Both me and my daughetr (15) really enjoye the film and she will be going to see it again when it's on general release. Sorry you didn't get to see it fedupconsumer. Did you get there really early?
Thanks for all of the useful information quoia - I'm amazed at how many films you've been able to see, I'm off to register with SFF now.
