Hi, we went in May/June last year. Also had silver accommodation (self catering). To be honest we were surprised at how clean the place was. Yes, it was basic but it was very clean. We weren't on the ground floor though, perhaps that makes a difference.

Having worked at butlins minehead, i would not say the accomodation is dirty, it certainly is not up to the standard of a top hotel where you would be paying £100 upwards a night, but certainly aint dirty, some chalets did suffer from mould, but was not a major problem, only really happens if there has been alot of rain, and then the damp rises from underneath, remember most of the accomodation has been there going on 30 years, but ants was always a problem, especially in the hot weather, they do try to combat it by putting some white ant powder down outside your front door, but when it is hot they are always about, dont think you will have that problem in 2 months time though, i certainly never saw them out that early in the year, all in all your accomodation will be fine, and if not just go to the accomodation customer services and complain, and they will either sort the problems out pronto, or if the situation needs it, they will move you, HTH Dave

  • I went to Bognor a few years ago and came home on the same day. Silver accomodation during the Easter 2006 break. There were holes in the quilt on the bed, dirty stains on the sheets, mould and rust on the windows and curtains, filthy floor and coffee stains on the cupboards. Oh, and a big hole in the wall where someone had put their fist through the wall.

Housekeeping were great and said they would clean the place again. However, we said the whole room needed redecorating and we could not see what they could hope to achieve with a duster and hoover!

We came home again on the same day. I did complain to the MD of the whole of Butlins and got a 25% discount on our next holiday which we put towards staying in the Hotel at Bognor for a week that Summer (the discount we got back was greater than our original Easter holiday).

The hotel is great and we have since been back three times. Planning to book February half term again this year.

The other point to mention is the fact that Butlins have had a big refub program going on, certainly this is the case at Bognor.

It might be worth giving them a ring and raising your concerns before you go. If Minehead are also going through a refurb. at the moment it might mean you get allocated a new room rather than a 'pot luck' run down room.

Although I have been to Minehead many years ago and stayed in their new accomodation (new in 1993!) and it was very nice.

we have been to both skegness & minehead- we went to skegness first & they had just had a complete refit the silver accomadation was fantastic- problem is went to minehead after expecting the same standard and it was not forthcoming- I wouldn't say it was dirty or mouldy just basic- I have stayed in worse & better so I looked at it as a cheap holiday, as long as the bed linen & bathroom is clean I'm happy- have a friend who always packs her own linen & sleeping bags so you could always do that.

We have been to Minehead a few times, it's ok, basic and could do with a refurb but it's clean enough, as soon as I get there I always get some bleach etc from the little shop and clean the sinks, worktops, tables etc. and wash all the plates and cutlery etc in boiling water lol, only because it makes me feel better.

If you do find anything you're unhappy about tell them straight away, they might upgrade you.

Try not to worry, you will have a good time and it's a little break for you, enjoy yourself!

Thank you all for your replies. i dont mind basic, just safe and clean mattresses and not cold or damp. Thanks again
  • We have been to minehead 3 times. First time it was july and there was a heatwave. Stayed in standard chalet and didnt have any trouble with ants or creepy crawlies. Other 2 times we went silver, not for any particular reason except it worked out cheaper with a promotion. Never had any trouble with accomodation except a plugless skin and maintenance came out straight away to put it right, admittely some apartments etc could do with an upgrade but they have always been clean. My boys love it and the entertainment outweighs the fact it isnt top notch accomodation. Don't worry about your accomodation yet, wait til you get there and if things aren't right speak to house keeping who normally do their best to resolve things. Just have a great break x

Hya, I went to Minehead in March and Oct last year. We had silver both times. Our chalets were spotless each time. I had been a bit wary after never been to Butlins and hearing different people complaining. But nothing was dirty or grubby in our apartment. Going again next month, silver again.
    Bye x :j
