Car extended warranty - wear and tear?
Hi all,
I took out an extended warranty when I bought on my 3 yr old car from Arnold clark 5 months ago.
The clutch has failed which they have deemed as 'wear and tear' and not covered.
I am obviously not satisfied after spending £12,000 on a motor which has clutch failure 5 months and 5,000 miles after purchase.
Is there any route I can take other than stating that the product sold was unsatisfactory and not a 'quality product' since I,ve been told it will cost £1000 to fix after spending the initial outlay?
Thanks for any replies.

How many miles has the car done in total?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

The car has done 47,000. 42,000 when bought0

May be a lost cause. Have you contacted Audi direct? I wonder if they could offer any advice?
Also, is that quote from a main dealer or a local garage?
Whilst a clutch should last longer than that, external factors such as the way it has been driven (before you) could affect it too.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
Do we know it's an Audi?0

You've no chance other than the goodwill of the garage who sold it to you. A clutch is counted as a consumable item, as are brake pads. How long a clutch lasts is wholly dependent upon how the car is used and what types of journey it does therefore it is completely impossible to say that it'll last for XX miles.
You cannot claim it was unfit for purpose as you've managed to drive 5000 miles in it perfectly OK.
As I said, your only hope is to try and get Arnold Clarke to change it but they are under no legal obligation to do so.Conor

You have discovered how useless any 'extended warranty' is. You have little to no chance of getting it repaired, unless the clutch is faulty - and not worn.
If your engine exploded in a ball of flames, and all 4 wheels flew off sideways, with the doors falling onto the floor, they would still say it was wear and tear. Extended warranties are a waste of money.0 -
This is the nightmare scenario. Dealer would proably be unaware of any wear in clutch and as you have found out warranty won't cover it.
I imagine your only hope is finding a fault that has caused the clutch to wear apart from bad driving and riding the clutch.0 -
close guess, its an Alfa. The quote I got was from a local garage, arnold clark is even dearer.
and i believe the last owner must have used the clutch pedal as a footrest for it to go so quickly0 -
clutches are wear and tear items0
