Problem with burner or programe

Me mithering again,
As I had to restart my PC from scratch the other day when I got virus, I thought all the software that was originaly on the pc would be all working properly again.
Im having trouble with my power2go version 4 burning program, it was only doing half a job before and never completing a disc, (only puttin home camcorder tapes onto disc) so when I reinstalled everything I thought it would work like new again. Tried it last night and it only did half the process then spat the disc out saying failed.
So with it being 4years old, I uninstalled it completly and I downloaded the updated trial version (power2go 6) from the cyberlink website and tried again. Still did the same, So after a long winded explanation do you think the problem is the software or the burner itself?
Im stuck and it amazed me that I was able to restart the pc from scratch myself.

Good chance the burners knackered
But I couldnt say for sure. What do you mean by 'restart from scratch' specifically?:idea:0 -

also if the burner is on its way out what speed are you writing to the CD's? maybe try a slower speed and see how that goes0

It reads some but not others. it is over 4years old and has been well used. It plays cds okish0 -
Tried slowing the speed down. Have just been reading up on it, somewhere said that the lens might be dirty. Judging by the fan that I had replaced a while ago It could be this. Maybe needs a good clean.
Failing that its going to the shop.0 -

What happens is when I put my camcorder tapes onto pc which goes fine, I then usualy burn them to disc with cyber 2 go. What that is doing is doing the first bit getting to a 100 and then when it starts to burn to the disc it stops and freezes and I cant shut down the cyberlink program.
am not very well up on all this I try to learn as I go along. sorry0 -

In which case, it does point to a faulty cd-writer, and four yrs is acceptable in terms of longevity (dependent on use). They aren't too expensive at all now, and it really is 'plug and play' often (sometimes they don't even require a driver install). Let us know how u get on:)BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!
