Credit card application asks for payslip but I'm on benefits- advice?

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help?

I recently applied for an HSBC credit card 0% interest for balance transfers, and got the letter today approving my application.

However, in addition to sending a utility bill for id purposes, they also ask me to send in a payslip.

The problem is I am not working - I am currently on benefits. The application form did not specify a minimum income, and I did put "housewife" for my occupation, and put my true income on the application.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do I send them a letter from the benefits office stating my benefit amount?? I'm frightened they will turn down my application because I'm not working!

I really need to transfer my existing credit card debt so I'm not paying interest!

Thanks in advance!

Do you know the limit they are offering will cover the amount you wish to transfer
  • What income did you state on your application, i.e. did you make out you were working and earning an amount more than the reality?

No, I didn't state I was working, I said "housewife", and I put my true income from benefits.

I don't recall seeing anywhere in the application it stipulating a minimum salary.

    Hi Mikki

You have been honest on your application, so I would phone them up and explain the situation. Explain that they asked for income and that you had stated it as requested. Tell them that you stated your benefits amount and ask them if they would like proof of them.
