Has anyone bought Razor blades on EBAY?

In particular the Gillette M3 or Mach 3 blades.

As I was wondering if they would be the same type that would be bought in a local store. IE Not genuine and sub standard other makes.

I have been watching the Gillette auctions a lot recently and people are selling packs of 20 or 40 blades which sell for a lot less and it seems quite tempting as it could be a potential saving.

Although I have made a note to myself not to buy from the seller who sells
"20 x Brand New In Box - Gillette M3 Power Razor Blades", starts the auction of at 0.99 but has quite a few seller IDs that put bids in on all these auctions. After 0.99 the bids seem to go to 1.04, 1.24, 1.64 then follow a pattern with these other 'sellers' inputting bids at certain points until the auction always seems to end about 18.00 pounds upwards.

So, has anyone any experience of buying blades, and what are your thoughts?

I bought 4 M3 blades a while back they were about £2 cheaper than the shops. They were the genuine M3 blades.Never bought anymore as it got me wondering where the sellers got these blades in the first place. They might have gotten them from abroad where they may be cheaper or they are stolen and then sold on ebay.
  • Way way cheaper than the hight street.

Not meaning to suggest all the razor blade sellers are suspect but as these blades are the number one shop-lifted item in the U,K so it seems likely that some stolen blades will make it onto Ebay. Also I would presume that there must be some fakes being made around the world nowadays, do the cartons have anti-fake security devices, holograms etc?

I can't see anything suspicious in bidding history like that, proxy bids will go up in certain increments, that's how it works. Also all auctions have a sort of fixed end price, if something usually sells for around £18 then the bids are unlikely to ever exceed that especially where there are so many identical items listed.

It is also likely that the same user ids will turn up, if they can't win one auction they will just move to the next. When I was buying a certain set of collectable items my user id was all over certain buyers auctions like a rash..

If however you believe that there is shill bidding going on, report them to ebay.

  • tbh buying razorblades from anywhere other than the usual ie boots etc means you are more than likely supporting crime!

anyone catch that dispatches programme a few months back? as a previous poster said these blades are the most stolen thing in the uk. ok they are blimmin expensive i agree with that, but you wouldnt go into boots and steal them yourself would you? well buying anything that is suss is basically doing the same thing!

also i have heard of fakes circulating and i certainly wouldnt want to shave my pitts with anything other than a super sharp gillette venus blade lol
