If you take your pC to PC world you deserve everything you get!
However I did say it's not a problem if you have backups. I wouldn't put it past PC World to format the drive before re-installing. The idea of relying on a partition to ensure you don't lose data during a re-install doesn't fill me with confidence. It's my problem, it's my problem

Thank you for all your suggestions.
I'm as confused as ever.
I think I will go with a 25gb partition for the OS and applications and 225gb for my data. If I don’t like it I’ll get Partition Magic and merge them into one.
My laptop is never going anywhere near PC World.
I like this Dell laptop despite the motherboard having to be replaced four times in five years. Fortunately, I took out an extended warranty for five years for about £50 which has proved to be a money saver.
Dell next day at home support is very good. They have never failed not to arrive and fix it the following day. Despite the high failure rate I would buy Dell again. I think I was just unlucky.
PS. I am very careful and always have multiple backups of my data.
I have 200gb of irreplaceable video files. I keep at least two completely separate copies at home and another copy at a friends house. I worked for IBM for many years and saw at first hand the consequences to a business of losing their data.

With such a small drive, id recommend keeping it solely for programs Av', and buy a secondary hardrive for storage:idea:0

This one not much as its fairly new and I only use it for certain things.
My XP one? 120 gig? At least
Well 250GB is not "such a small drive" for most users and most users would not use up 120GB just for programs alone! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
