Difficulty in changing bulbs nowadays

A friend of mine damaged his tail light lens on his new golf so had to replace the whole unit. Asked me to help. I was unhappy to see you had to take the whole unit out just to replace the bulb. It is a fiddly job and a time-consuming job. What happened to opening a rear cover of the unit and unclip the bulb holders like on older cars. Are all cars like this nowadays where you may have to go to a garage to replace a simple bulb?

Have heard of difficulty of replacing a headlight bulb in focus's and that with renault megane you have to take the wheel off to get to the headlight bulb.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

the focus is easy. just some folk dont think about it first.
the renault idea of taking wheels off is ridiculous though, i think some audis are a nightmare too.

It's the price of style I'm afraid, combined with the under bonnet complexity of the modern compact car. Never had a real problem with rear lights tho' most have a couple of thumb screws that quickly let you drop the whole lamp out to replace the unit or change the bulb.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Think yourself lucky you dont have an Aston Martin. The lights are sealed units so you need to get the AM garage to change them for you!!

My Fiat Grande Puntos tail lights are replaced by removing the whole unit.
I actually found it easier as I could then take the unit inside and see properly what I was doing than trying to reach in found inside the boot.

You mean old cars like my Capri where you have to take off the rear light cluster to change the bulb?

  • Ludicrous this bulb changing fiasco, and some Vauxhalls are getting like Renaults, apparently the new Corsa/tigra requires bumper removal for some of the headlight bulbs, that'll be handy at 10pm on the motorway service area then.

Simple answer, don't buy the rubbish, they'll soon sort the situation, whilst people continue to buy on looks over use or quality, they'll turn more of the same out.
