    30 years after the death of Christ a prominent Church elder wrote something along the lines of this;

    "Christmas has become a vulgar materialistic exuse for people to gorge and indulge, we need to get back to the founding principles"

    Nope sorry, not 30 years after Christ - Christ was born sometime in September anyway :) (remember those shepherds on hill tops with sheep? The sheep were always safely back in their sheds by the time it got too cold in October up there )He also told his disciples not to celebrate his birth. So I think you have got the dates in a twist there, more like 300 years ago I should think.

    Wonderful. Do you not think lubricant will prove more essential than wine?

    It's thanks to that mentality that we've managed to do our house up with top notch stuff from ebay, for a fraction of the price but with all the quality. e.g. we got a solid Teak coffee table, which the owners will have paid £3-400 from John Lewis for £6.50. Got an Indian Sheesham Wood unit (again £3-400 from Next) for £20 and a solid hardwood bookcase (huge) for £10. A Brosely fire (£550) for £80. The list goes on. Our house is beautiful and it's all stuff we wanted but would never have paid the asking price for.

    We're now on the hunt for a nice sofa in a similar way. Go DFS Sales - means more nearly new sofas on ebay!

    If only Ebay sold houses:rotfl:

  • Some excellent posts on here especially #21 and #39.

    I'm not sure if this counts a part of a "social revolution" but I'd like to see social lending take off. People will, for whatever reason, always need to borrow money. Others, pensioners for instance, rely on interest on savings for income. It amazes and depresses me to see people on the DFW board here crumbling under the burden of 30%+ interest rates imposed by credit card companies on their debts while at the same time folk on the savings and investments board are jumping through hoops to try and secure 4% credit interest on savings now that base rate has dropped. In the middle sit the banks happily creaming off the diffference. I know that Zopa and also credit unions exist so why do the banks still have such a stranglehold on the money markets? :confused:
