Well, I just had a try but I messed it up a bit.

I used my veg peeler (Jamie Oliver one) which is quite good to slice the potatoes with but I put them on a piece of greaseproof paper without oil.

Sprinkled some spices on them and cooked them for just under 4 mins in an 800w microwave.

They were lovely, brown and crispy, only thing is most were stuck to the flippin' paper!

Must remember to put a smearing of oil on there next time.

    Doh!

One medium to small sized potato made enough to cover the microwave plate so that would have been enough for a healthy snack.

A tip i think may work so that you don't get too much oil on them, put the chips or crisps in a plastic bag with a spoon or two of oil, then shake it about a bit. The oil should cover the potatoes without making them to unhealthy.

  • mmm I made them tonight they were lovely although they did stick to the plate even with plenty of oil! Had mine with melted cheese and sour cream and chive on the top! Not exactly healthy but they tasted gooooood

Would non-stick baking paper work? Tesco stopped selling it but ASDA do.

Not sure but I found some at the back of the kitchen cupboard tonight so I shall have another go tomorrow.

Will let you know how I get on.

Just a thought - can you use silicon baking sheets in the microwave?
  • Do you think this would work with other vegetables to make root vegetable crisps? Only one way to find out! I reckon cooking times might need to be adjusted slightly for other vegetables.

I love M&S beetroot crisps but at £3 a packet I had to give them up, and thankfully the M&S in the city centre doesn't stock them anymore. I've got some beetroot at home so I'm going to attempt to make my own!
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*

Queen - yes I know of people who have done other vegetable crisps. Worth a try!
  • I think I need to try this! Crisps are one thing I'm craving but that I have cut out.

I had a go at the weekend, i put them on a Teflon cooking mat, you know like a sort of plastic thing. I covered them with a paper towel . I did 2 mins then turned them over for another 2 mins, but when i looked the paper towel was just about to go on fire, They were a bit burnt, but the birds ate them.
Will have another go but a bit less time.
