Disgusted with Egg

I have been a customer of Egg since the company first started. When my current card expired I did note receive the automatic replacement. Yes I am one of the customers who pays more than the minimum payment and have never been unable to may a payment!

On queuing this with egg the response was:

"Your Egg Card was closed on 28 November 2008. This was instigated by Egg.In line with the Egg Card Terms and Conditions Egg have the right to close your Egg Card at any time."

I find this Totally and utterly disgusting! I had No communication from Egg in anyway shape or form to state that this was going to be the case.
Reading around it looks like this is how Egg treats its customers who keep their finances in order.

Very unhappy and totally dissatisfied with the company.

Unless your Egg balance is at 0% and/or your savings are very small, you shouldn't be carrying a balance *any* month on the Egg Card...unless you're earning 16.9%+ AER after tax on the savings of course!
  • Well said YB.

Though you can put you complaint in writing SuperPlay, Egg have the right to close your account at any time, youre not the first and wont be the last.

    Loyalty doesnt count for anything.

Egg's a credit card why not carry a balance on it-thats the idea spend the credit limit if you want. Carrying a balance is not a crime is it?? - Monthly apr is what 1.313 % not too much to pay back if you have to!.

While I'm surprised that you were not informed of the closure, and I share your disgust at this, I'm not at all surprised they've closed the card out of the blue.

They did precisely the same to me about 6 months ago. Said they had carried out a review of the card membership and effectively - in so many words - 'were weeding out the less than perfect members'. They were closing accounts left right and centre.

I received a 3 line letter basically stating the above. Fortunately it happened a few days after my having paid off the total balance so it wasn't a big deal for me.

Very bad form not to let you know though I agree.
  • I'm sort of going the other way. I've cleared the balance and have written to them requesting that the account is closed and had no reply and the account is still open! Can't win with them it seems.

~26%/year? Not an insignificant number... If you can pay it off in full, I would!
