photobox?

hi gang, sorry if this is in the wrong place but i didnt know where else to put it.

As you all know im paying back my OH's debts - weve moved to reduce costs. Now the new tennants in my old address have forwarded some mail on for me, one happened to be a parcel from a company called Photobox - inside was a picture of a little boy and its definitley not something either of us have ordered, checked name on parcel, Definitley me - i have an unusual name so its not a mrs smith job! I called the company to see where this parcel had come from and was told it was ordered from an email address which is exactly the same as my other halfs apart from the last bit. His email is AOL and the email on photoboxs system is hotmail. Now they said ive been charged, i havent ive checked my bank details. So i left it at that. Now i have been on the phone to the bank and they think it might be a scam company trying to get bank details. Im trying to find out if it is a scam company and thats where you mighty people come in!

ive found a few address for them - but how do i tell if they are scammers?

    Hiya,

    Photobox are a company - www.photobox.co.uk
I have used them loads of times. No idea what has happend but just thought i would let you know i have used them before.
    CHeers :)
  • Well they do seem a legit company - However they did ask for my bank details which i refused. They never called me, i called them after i got a parcel from them and its just freaky how they have half of my details and half of OH's even though we arent financially links or anything. Only thing where we are linked if facebook! The bank has said not to worry but to get a new debit card just in case but it all seems very odd

Provided it's THE photobox then yes there is definitely a genuine company called that. I've used them too and incidently they're very good usually :) So unless some scammers have started sending pictures etc out somehow then I'm stumped...
Is the phone number on the parcel the same as the one on the website messymum posted? if so then something has obviously gone haywire somewhere :)

They said ive been a victim of identy theft but my bank is adament nothing has come out of my bank yet photo box insist they have been paid? gave them last 4 digits of my card number and it doesnt match?

    its freaking me out!

Do you recognise the boy in the picture? If it's not someone you recognise, then clearly neither you nor your OH have ordered it. If you've not ordered the picture, then you won't have given your card details to Photobox

definitley no one we recognise but it seems odd they have my name (and its actually spelt correctly!) as i say, i have an unusual name (both first name and surname) and it is very unusual for people to spell it correctly even when ive spelt it out to them lol will ask about to see if any family know this little boy?

Are you on Facebook using your full (unusual) name? Is there a disgruntled ex in the picture who might like to stir up trouble by suggesting there is an unknown little boy in your OHs life? Otherwise it must be some kind of scam, but you have already sussed that so won't be giving any bank details to anyone.

  • Sounds odd but I use Photobox on a regular basis and have done for a while, never had an issue and they are a very good company.
My first thoughts are its just a mix up, confusing definitely, but fairly innocent and the worst thing that will happen is that some poor !!!!!! wont get their pictures.
But you do have to be careful and as such obviously dont give anyone your bank or card details.
Id say its just an unfortunate mix up of accounts.
