Not sure what's funny about that. I have a pair of Cheaney brogues that I bought in a sale 10 years ago for £120. I have had them reheeled and soled three times at c.£30 a time, which works out at £21 per annum. The lining at the back is a bit worn but I replaced that myself with some leather offcuts and glue. They show no signs of wearing out on the uppers so will probably last many more years.
Cheap shoes (for men, at any rate) are generally a false economy and they tend to be nasty with plastic lining, leaky uppers etc.
As for gloves, do kiddies really need them? You could make mittens out of old socks - I think that's what they did in the war.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -

yeah, i agree. i wear chelsea boots to work, and often at the weekend, £150 a pop, and have to reheeled occassionally, but they're cheaper than buying a naff pair of cheap shoes which wear out after 6 months.0 -

Isaac thinks the same. He won't wear the mittens we bought him, he insists on wearing a pair of socks on his hands. Not worth fighting over....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
My kids thought I was mad the first time they went out to build a snowman...no gloves or mittens for them, I got an armful of odd socks out of our odd socks bin and put them on them.
Work a treat. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Why not knit your own gloves, Addiscomber? You could then add a few rows in the fingers to suit. (ps does your name come from where you live perchance?)0

I've never spent that much in my entire life on one pair of shoes.
Most I ever spent was £26 on some soft leather Italian court shoes from a small specialist shop in Torquay, when they had the big sale on.
I usually spend £5-10 for leather shoes.
I wish I was but his feet seem to be an odd shape and at least these fit. I've tried countless 'off the shelf' shoes on him and nothing fits. My husbands feet are a mess through wearing ill fitting shoes as a kid so I'm trying to justify the price in my head that way, thank you very much.
Ps. He's got a pair of 75p gloves from the market:D0
