With prices like this is it any wonder some folk are skint?

A mate of mine goes around the country training people on H&S stuff. His rate used to be £250 per day and he was getting very little work. So he simply upped his rates to £600 per day an all of a sudden he got more work than he could cope with.

What my mother calls "the face cream principle". Costs a lot, must be good....

  • You guys dont seriously repair shoes, hairbrushes etc, do you?

Not personally, no. But I have them mended. I have reasonably expensive, nice work shoes that fit and are comfy and smart, and I have had them re-heeled.

  • Fair enough if they were expensive ones (designer etc, although I assume the majority of people on here wouldnt go near that sort of stuff?)

I dont get it with the £5 - £10 pairs of shoes people buy though ;)
  • Not designer, but my work shoes cost £60, so worth a few quid mending them.

My last pair of shoes cost me £3.50 in the sales, original price was £30, they are evening shoes (or what I call dress up shoes) so will last me years as I only dress up once a year!

My everyday pair of shoes cost me £2.99, they are worn everyday and are very comfortable...so far I have had them 6 months and they are still going very strong with no holes, tears etc.

My trainers were purchased 4 nearly 5 years ago for £5, they were initially worn a fair bit but I rarely put them on now...they will do another 4 or 5 years, possibly more!

Can anyone tell I don't have a shoe fetish?
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • I'd love to know where people find these dead cheap shoes. I had to pay £45 for my work shoes, couldn't find anything else I liked. There's a company that does nice shoes for about £30 but the shop didn't have my size in and weren't getting any more.

Speaking of gloves wearing out, my "magic" gloves are wearing thin. They were cheap but I'll wear them until they actually get a hole in. I have a problem buying gloves because I have such small hands. My thermal gloves (present from MIL) are way too big, but of course it wouldn't occur to anyone to buy me children's gloves :)

I spend enough money on shoes that would make most of the respondents of this thread faint :(

I have only ever bought shoes in the sales, oh no except for those rip-off K-Swiss for a present.
