My DS needs/wants to put weight on. He has mentioned things from the health shop that he could buy to drink to help up his calories and aid the weight gain.
To save money is there something I could make him at home so can drink them between meals?
Thanks
KM

Milk? You could buy cheap milkshake powder if you want protein shake taste.0

Yes I was thinking milk based but then thought there might be something I could add that would add extra calories?0

Milkshake with an egg added. You can apparently blend a boiled egg into a milkshake if raw egg scares you. Add some cream too for extra calories and vitamins.
Or smoothies made with coconut milk (not the reduced fat one) or peanut butter (nice with banana).0 -
Full fat yoghurt?0

You could add tofu or any kind of nuts or dried fruit or wheatgerm or try this one
To gain weight/restore health this one packs a punch
12 fl ozMilk
3 fl ozYogurt
1 banana
flesh from 1/2 avocado
5 Brazil nuts
2 tsps honey
Whizz all together in a blender0 -
don't waste your money on the health food shop stuff. I did!!
DD is 5' tall and will be 19 next month she weighs 5st 10lbs and fits clothes age 11-12!! She weighed 6lb 3 at birth and put on weight OK for first 18mths then got a virus and didn't grow or increase her weight for nearly a year.
She and doctor have tried many things over the years, she can eat chocolate cake for england, have big fry ups every day and she would still stay thin.
She is healthy and has no medical problems. GP said she will appreciate it when she is older.
Being healthy is more important than anything.
If your son has had a gp check up and says he's OK then I would concentrate on getting him into good eating habits.
If he's not happy with his appearance then how about weight training, he would need to increase his protein intake which you can buy at health food shops (protein powder on special every 3 months at holland and barret)
Most gyms will proved a personal training program for free and dietary advice.
If gp said needs to gain weight then maybe google anorexia and weight gain it should give many ideas to put on weight healthy.

when i wanted to put on weight i made shakes with about :
half pint of milk,
2 bananas,
handful of fresh berries (blueberries, strawb's, what ever is cheapest and seasonal),
spoon of honey,
some oats/wheatgerm,
teaspoon of hemp seeds/ sesame seeds
small pot of yoghurt
optional half grated carrot/avocado, replace milk with apple juice
good for post gym nutrition too, can substitute other nuts, seeds and fruits and have daily. Have also made them for very ill clients at work and proved to be very good for weight gain and good nutrition!!!£5000 debt cleared thanks to MSE advice :money:0 -
