New cooker...? FSD? Help!

We're getting a property ready to rent and thought as part of the general sprucing up of the place that we'd put in a new cooker - the old one works, but is a bit shoddy...

We have a gas cooker, and I thought it would be as simple as buying a cooker, and then when the corgi gas man comes round to do the boiler check, then get him to install it as well. However we have just found out that we need an FSD cooker - which is much more expensive (min 300)....

What are our options? Do we have to get one of the FSD cookers? If we fit it ourselves (just push the bayonet in?), then will the corgi gas man check and fail us for it? If we keep the existing cooker then will that be ok?

How about switching to electric? Is that easy to do? How much would it cost for an electrician to come round and fit it for us?

Sorry for all the questions, but we're on a very tight budget!

Thanks
Lou

With FSD (Flame supervision Device) cookers... this was a new regulation which came into place Jan 2008?

It's for any type of property which is "shared".... flats, flat above a shop. If it's a house.... no one above or below... or in the same building you can get ANY cooker.

As for fitting it your self, it's very very simple and easy to do - however - highly not recommended... you can get prosecuted! It's breaking the law.

Electric cookers are fine, you may already have some fittings or connections there? Best off speaking to you local trades men. yell.com :)

comet sell FSD cookers from £244 :)
