Overpaid credit card balance

Hi

I have a Nationwide credit card. I haven't yet set up a DD to pay off the full monthly balance, so just log into my HSBC current account and hit Make a Payment. Payments are due by the 12th of the month.

I couldn't find my credit card statement, so I rang Nationwide and went into the automated telephone banking. The balance was £400, so I transferred that amount from HSBC to Nationwide.

I subsequently found my statement and the balance due was only £155 (ie I guess the £400 was the total balance of £155 plus £245 I've spent since that statement).

Annoyingly this has also put me into the red on my HSBC account and I'll get some hefty charges for that.

The question is: Does it matter that I've paid the additional £245 early? And is there anything I can do to "un-do" that?

Thanks
Alex

No, it doesn't matter, it just means you've lowered your current debt. In theory, no, you can't undo it, but you could always speak to them and tell them an error has been made. they may be sympathetic to your request ? It's highly unlikely, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

Just remember though that because you overpaid this month will not mean you can underpay or not pay anything next month.
