Replacing my desktop monitor ..

Options
Hi all,

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 which I bought almost two years ago. Now I am thinking of changing the monitor and going for a flat screen one.

And here comes my question – is there any replacement scheme available some where whereby I can exchange my existing monitor with a nice 19 inch flat screen one?

Cheers

  • No there won't be a scheme available for this as recyclers charge for disposing of these in an enviromentally friendly way. Best bet is your local paper however don't exxpect too much for it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
  • Hi ya,

Thanks for your reply. I am kinda bummed that no such scheme exists.

In any way, when I was searching for 19" TFT monitor, I came across this LG from Argos for 199.99/-
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6701853/Trail/C%24cip%3D36163.Office%2C%2BPC%2Band%2Bphones%3EC%24cip%3D36236.PC%2Bmonitors.htm

Since I don't know much abt TFT here are my daft questions -

    - is this make/model any good?
    - is this deal ok? or is there any other better deals?

Thanks a million in advance

You WILL get it for less than Argos if you buy online.

    Try https://www.ebuyer.com

Most products have customer reviews. Both good and bad reviews are shown.

£200 for that particular monitor is about top price IMHO.

I've got an LG 1720B which I got about 12 months ago and I'm very pleased with it.

17" TFT is well big enough really, equivalent in visible screen size to a 19" CRT.

That's the general rule by the way - TFT size equivalent to next CRT size up.

That Argos one only has a 1 year warranty, so you're looking at £235 with a 3 year warranty, which many TFTs come with as standard.

Plenty of 19" 12ms TFTs for £180 with 3 year warranty if you have a look online.

  • It depends what you want the monitor for ie Gaming/Web browsing etc etc.

The resolution isn't brilliant for a 19" monitor, and the response time is too long if you play games. However, just as a basic 19" flat panel monitor, it's not too bad, but as said you can probably get it for less £. :)
