One off charge of £29.35 then free wifi hotspots for life on o2 - via The Cloud

This seems like a good deal to me....

Basically buy an o2 PAYG broadband usb dongle - its the newest version that has the memory stick built in, for £29.35 (reduced from £49.99) and you get a dongle that gives you 1 day usage for £2 through to a month at £15 for 3gb - this in itself if ok but not a great deal but the main thing here is that it gives you free access to over 6000 hotspots in the UK.

And you dont even need to top up to get the hotspots, so basically you could spend £29.35 buying the stick and make use of free hotspots for life. Then if you are in an area with no hotspot coverage you just pay £2 for 24 hours of surfing.

The hotspot usage does not count towards your download allowance so you can surf away for free.

I know other providers who charge £10 a month for hotspot usage alone, so this seems like a good deal to me.

The Cloud itself charges £6.99 to £9.99 a month.

Also Quidco.

cheers

Rich

A bit confused here The Cloud is the people who offer free wi-fi in Macdonalds. Where else is it available? and why would I need an o2 Dongle to get access?

Yes The Cloud is available for free in McD's and Pret etc but there are also another 6000+ handy hotspots throughout the UK that require you to pay, hence why they charge £9.99 a month for subscription.

By buying the dongle you are getting a username and password to use on The Cloud

So that means i can use the wifi on my phone with the cloud password and username
  • I don't think you will receive WiFi access without paying for airtime.

From the O2 Mobile Broadband Pay & Go Terms and Conditions:

Your O2 Mobile Broadband access will expire:
    i) in the case of the unlimited Wi-Fi element, when the time period (one day, 7 day or 30 day) expires;
    and
ii) in the case of the network data element, after your data allowance is used up (500MB, 1GB or 3GB) if this used up before the time period expires or when the time period expires, whichever is sooner.

LOL @ ISPs and their "Unlimited" packages that always come with limits.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

i have both the o2 dongle and subscribe to the cloud at £10 a month.
you do not get free access (other than maccie'd's etc) at cloud hotspots.
but, the cloud has the most spots in the uk, or did untill their recent spat with OT openzone which is still ongoing.

you may want to look at the PAYG deal as you get free cloud hotspots as part of the package
  • Just looked at the details, it's certainly the monthly charge you get the Unlimited Wifi for not just the dongle. So pay £15 a month and get £9.99 worth of Wifi. Not such a good offer unless you want the O2 Mobile Broadband.
