Restarting after windows screen

Hi all

Restarted my computer the other day after installing Vertu PC suite. It said I needed to restart for changes to take effect. That was the last time my computer has worked.

I clicked restart went downstairs for a coffee and when I came back up noticed it was still restarting. Watched it for a few minutes and when it got past the BIOS screens and into the windows xp loading screen it would just restart.

The same problem happened a few weeks ago and I just selected last known good configuration and all worked.Tried that this time and it doesn't work.

The annoying thing is whether I try and boot up normally or in safe mode they both just restart after that screen.

I did a google search and the common problem is that but then a blue screen (blue screen of death?) flashes up before the restart. Mine doesnt do this and just restarts.

Maybe someone on here has an idea other than throw it out the window? :rotfl:

I haven't tried reinstalling windows purely because I dont want to have to wipe the HDD. It does sound like a system file has !!!!!!ed itself up though so not sure if thats my only option?

Just to stop my post being a complete jumble i've put the facts and theories below.

Facts

Computer wont boot up in normal mode
Computer wont boot up in safe mode
Computer wont boot up in Last Known Good Configuration
Last software installed was Vertu PC Suite
There is NO blue screen flashing up before the PC restarts

Theories

Corrupt system file

LOL thats all.

I would really like to not loose my files.

Can you boot from your XP cd (if you have one) and select the Repair option?

It sounds like a file has been corrupted during this recent software installation. Everytime XP tries to load it during the boot cycle it crashes and recycles.
If you can gain access via the CD you may be able to rename/delete the offending file if it can be identified, maybe even uninstall it completely...

I downloaded the software from vertu.com so I don't think its dodgy software.

If I was to put the xp disk in and do the recovery option how would I go about uninstalling the problem file?

If it was a system file that the install has messed up would I be able to just install that file? And more to the point would I be able to find out which file was at error?

Press F8 before windows starts loading and select safe mode or you could try the option of "Last settings that worked and uninstall the app , you may be able to use system restore to roll the system back to before you installed the problem app if you get into safe mode or manage to start on last config.

As said in frist post I am unable to start up in safe mode normal mode or LGC.

No matter which mode I boot up in it just does the same thing. This is why i'm so stuck because I dont know what route to take to save my files when I cant actually access the PC.

What if I was to take the HDD out and plug it into a mates as a second drive? Would it then boot up windows off his HDD and you could just access mine as the D drive (or similar)?
