BA Airmiles with Tesco clubcurd...do have I to pay fees and fuel surcharge?

Hallo everybody,
I collected Clubcards vouchers for ages with the only purpose of converting them in BA Airmiles and can get a free flight somewhere in Europe (Italy or France possibly).
Today a friend told me that when you book your flight using your Airmiles the flight does not come out totally for free. They add fuel surcharge and fees. Is that true? Anyone has experiences to share? How much would it be the total cost of a free ticket then?
Thank you!
Regards
Egghi

Airmiles have now incorporated all fees, taxes and charges into the airmiles rate. When you book an airline ticket airmiles normally quote you 3 options from all airmiles to mostly cash and some airmiles. One thing to note though converting clubcard points to airmiles probably does not maximise the value of your clubcard points. You would probaly be better off looking at one of the tour operator schemes e.g. Cosmos or Virgin in the clubcard deals. You can pay all or part of the holiday costs at £10 clubcard vouchers=£40 holiday brochure value. Have a look at the clubcard rules as you sometimes have a time limit to get the holiday vouchers to the tour operator. We recently got a £4200 Virgin holiday for £800 using Tesco vouchers collected over a couple of years.

If you are converting them to the BA miles (ie BA's frequent flyer scheme) you will need to pay taxes and charges. If you are converting them to Airmiles, then taxes and charges are included. For a short haul economy flight I would prefer the Airmiles as taxes and charges could cost more than a flight from a low cost carrier.
  • If travelling in Europe Airmiles rather than BA miles is the way forward. BA miles are better used towards upgrades or for business class flights

BA Miles should be save for long haul or upgrades.

We paid £890 + 100,000 BA Miles for 2 CW Returns NCL/LHR/YVR in November fro Aug 2009. Flexible ticket value = £12500....

    Now THAT'S a bargain!!
