Question about adding a named driver and them charging double the original quote

Hi,
I have a question about adding a partner on my car insurance

Im currently with Dial Direct and when we first got the policy out my partner was on as an additional driver, the policy then cost £60 a month taking into account he was not yet 25 years old

I then removed him from the policy for an administartion fee of £25

Yesterday i phoned them back up as i wanted to re-add him again on the poicy, they quoted me £67 per month even though he has now been driving for more than one year and he is over 25 years old

I told the customer service rep that i thought that was to expenive so i decided to do a search on confused.com and more importantly on "Dial Directs" website, i got quotes ranging from £23-£33 per rmonth

I wanted to know how they can charge double of what other quotes state to add my partner and quote even more the second time around even though his circumstances have changed

Also can i ring dial direct back and tell them i have a quote from there website half the price they quoted

The reason why i want t keep this policy on is because i will have to pay £90 to cancel the poicy

Do i have a case here and is it worth pursuing ?

I hope someone can help and point me in the right direction

Thanks

You need to ring and speak to the company concerned.

It's possible they are trying to rip you off and you might get somewhere by just ringing them.
As insurance is an annual contract and not monthly it's also possible that there is a justfication e.g. only a few months to go, so admin fee makes it seem higher when averaged over remaining months.

Either way you need to call them and ask them why it's so high and if there is no explanation then put forward your arguments.

Normally insurance is annual and any monthly fee is simply a loan/credit, so possibly there is an admin fee that bumps up the monthly payment when spread over 2 months rather than a new 12 month contract (for example).

I dont mind paying admin fee even thoug i dont agree with it

But to give me a quote for £67 when it was initially £60 and for me to find the same quote from there database at £23 is riduculous.
