Experian or Equifax?

Hi all im new to this board and must admit its VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!

ok heres my problem, next jan a default is removed from new credit file for orange, it was fully cleared and shows as satisfied BUT on my EXPERIAN file its still here, on my Equifax file, its been TOTALLY removed!??!?!

I need to open a new card to do a balance transfer, however, need to know what firm of lender will use EQUIFAX so then ill be more than likely guaranteed a card to do the transfer. I have steady income and NO bad history or anything, just straight '0' on my file for any accounts

The list on this web site for who uses who is a little dated as i ask customer services who they use for their credit searches and they all say experian and/or equifax.... i need a lender who is only going to search equifax

any help would be much appreciated!!!

Is there no way to get it cleared from the Experian file as well?

The lenders don't like publicising which CRA they use as they don't like consumers trying to beat the system, so a lot of them will tell you that they use both CRAs. The list you refer to isn't completely accurate but it is a good guide.

Your best bet would be to just apply, it's only a credit card and it your default is satisfied then maybe it won't have as big an impact as you think.
  • Hi Angie

thanks for the reply, i've tried everything with experian but they aint having any or it! I've tried applying a few times last year and the fact that it was a SATISFIED defualt didnt matter, they just saw it as a default... i even wrote a letter and sent bank statements supposrting my letter, showing mortgage payments paid and the platinum card always being paid up to date...

You are allowed to put a 'Notice of Correction' on your credit reference file. This is a comment which can be used to explain something on the file if the CRA won't remove something.

Lenders will see this when they check your file so this may help you out.

My advice would be to just apply for a card and see what happens. Chances are a lot of lenders won't be bothered, especially if the default was satisfied and if it was a while ago.
  • hi

i have a notice of correction and still no luck. i recently applied for a store card by STYLE who use EQUIFAX and it went through no probs, its the firms who use experian who just aint having none of it

Credit reference agencies can only remove defaults (or any credit account entries for that matter) with the permission of the organisation that filed it. So your query should really be directed at Orange. It seems strange that, if what you say is true, the information has been removed from one agency but not the other. Perhaps you could ask Orange why this was.
