Hi hun
You do need to write to them as words do not mean anything if you know what I mean, because if this went as far as the financial ombudsman service they would have really expected you to write to them...so you can also give them the copies of evidence to go forward with the complaint to investigate.
I had a huge loan with Nemo and settled very early, and finally won the PPI back through the Financial ombudsman service as nemo were not the easiest to deal with, we had a loan of £54K and PPI on top of that was just under £11K, we received back just under £13K with interest as well.
People tend to use the template on the link on here:

There is some useful PPI info on mis selling and a letter template, they have 8 full weeks to respond.
You should keep copies of these letter for your evidence in case your not successful and you want to complain to the FOS like I did.
There are many others who have had complaints about these as well and did not have it easy where again their's did go to the FOS after the 8 weeks and not successful.
Start by writing to them giving your own reasons of how you feel you were mis sold and post by recorded delivery to make sure it reaches them, if you let us know what they say, you could let us know so we can help you move on to the next step.;)
Good luck
