How do you calculate part time employees holiday?

If I work a 3 day week for a company and all full time employees work a 5 day week and have a holiday entitlement of 30 days every year (including public holidays) how many days holiday is my entitlement?

In our work you would take the number of days EXCLUDING public holidays and then you would get 3/5 of that. If a public holiday falls on one of your working you get it as a holiday, if not you don't.

22/5 * 3 = 13 days floating

8/5 *3 = 5 bank holidays, or 3/5th of each bank holiday paid, depending on how your company actually make payments. Either way results in the same amount of time.

That is not fair - proportionately.

Full-timers are disadvantaged compared with part-timers who work on Mondays and part-timers who don't work on Mondays are disadvantaged compared with the full-timers and the part-timers who do work on Mondays.

This is true. I'm not saying it is fair or otherwise, just how things are done. I believe it is also standard practice for our industry, which is notoriously poor when it comes to holidays. (As a senior manager my holiday entitlement is one day more than the stat minimum, but I knew that when I started.) Of the very few part-timers we employ, this is made clear to them at the offer stage.

Not as far as I am aware. We only have one at the moment and the days of work were mutually agreed. But we will see.

Your holiday entitlement is whatever your contract says it it. Why are you asking?

Because most contracts would say 22 days plus 8 Bank holidays (Pro Rata). Some people have difficulty working Pro Rata entitlement out.

Does that satisfy your curiosity?
