Is it legal to have 2 car insurance policies for 2 different cars?
I currently have my own policy for my car.& my husband has always been on as a named driver, my husband has the chance of having a car, for a yr of his friend so can i take insurance out with a differnet company for that car & become the main driver, & putting him as the second driver. Is this legal?

Yes perfectly legal, you must declare any other vehicle available to you on the proposal form. Don't know what effect on the premiums though. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

If you actually ARE the main driver it's fine.
If you aren't the main driver then no it's not OK.
You can also only use your NCD once.
So if this is your reason for doing it then it won't work.
Admiral do a "multicar" policy so it might be worth looking at that, but you obviously have to consider the cancellation cost (and loss of any paritial NCB) on your existing policy.0 -
lisyloo is right about only using 'no claims' once. tesco did a thing were they matched no claims if you took both policies out with them. I'd lost my no claims because I didn't have a car for just over 2 years so we changed policies and after 12 months my no claims were fully restored (OH had full so mine were matched to that). Worth enquiring about so he can build up own:D0

I used to have 2 cars with two different policies. It came in handy when I had a couple of crashes I just swapped the policies over so I had full no claims on the dearer car.
