I Need A Passbook Savings Account & Quick

Options
Hi everyone,

Without going into too much detail as Ive already posted it on the debt free board, I need to open a bank account / savings account really quickly so that my wages can be paid into a new account either by bacs transfer or cheque.

Does anyone know of a passbook account that I can just walk into a branch with id etc open it and walk out with all my account details - pref no credit checks.

Many thanks

  • yes you dont get credit checked for savings anyhow do you?

just make sure you take name and address verification and money to open it - basis book accounts at Nationwide, Halifax, and I think Abbey (i'm sure there are more too)

A credit check will bring up arrears, late payments , missed payments and defaults.
So to avoid your wages cheque being 'swallowed ' up by an existing overdrawn account you open another account.

If youve read my thread on the debt free board properly you would know that Im working on my debts and that im working on advice of the cccs.

I asked a simple question seeking some advice from a board I thought would help me, i didnt post here to be judged!

I dont want a credit chek because I will be turned down hence wasting my time and theres. It would be a pointless exercise.

  • Open the passbook you mentioned before pixie1, no hassle, and there and then - but don't do it in the same bank as your debts (they do have right to offset any balances) - so to avoid this and make it more manageable, by keeping it separate, open one elsewhere
    Good Luck

Sounds like you need a Basic Bank Account. You won't get a passbook but you will get a cashcard so that you can withdraw money at cash machines. You can also pay money into your account using the cashcard.

All high street banks offer Basic Bank Accounts, but do not advertise them well. Some of these accounts can even be accessed via the Post Office. The two banks that do not do credit checks are Halifax and Lloyds TSB.

But you will have to wait some time for the account to be opened, so you may wish to open a passbook account in the meantime.
