Carers Allowance scrapped

My son's DLA was reduced from MRC to LRC on renewal. We sent in letters from doctor and consultant, and also highlighted inconsistencies in the EMP report (he had confirmed in the narrative the seriousness of his condition and that it was unlikely to improve, and had also confirmed that from his own observation he has certain care needs.... but then went down the boxes and ticked the 'does not need help with' for everything.
We lodged an appeal, but in fact it was treated as a review and his MRC was reinstated in a matter of days.
So do appealI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Thanks everyone. Just a waiting game I guess. As I said my sons support team is great. We actually get 2 1 hour reviews a year with his doctor and community nurse pushed for incontinece clinic, special needs dentist and the psychologist he sees weekly. So definately shouldn't complain- that kind of health won't disapear simply because of bureaucratic invisible penpushers that don't understand my sons daily/hourly/minute(ly) needs.0

I'd be interested to know how many people were surveyed, and how the questions were phrased. For a start "• 86% of customers surveyed were satisfied with the overall service they received (compared to 83% in 2005/2006)." Means that 14% weren't happy with the service they receive.Trasthmatic wrote: »I do love the way this forum seems to bring out the positive side of people
Every year the Disability Carers Service (DCS) has Mori do a customer survey for them. Below are some of the points from the 2006/2007 survey.
• The overall attitude of customers is, generally, very positive.
• 86% of customers surveyed were satisfied with the overall service they received (compared to 83% in 2005/2006). 56% of customers were very satisfied.
• Two in three customers (67%) would speak highly of the DCS and one in four (24%) would do so unprompted - similar levels to previous years.
• Customers are more likely to agree that DCS delivers on every element of the Customer Promise than in 2005/06, showing improvements across the board. The exception was being able to access DCS services easily, which remained constant.
• 74% of customers agree that DCS uses clear written and spoken English.
• Listening to customers' views is shown to be an important driver of customer satisfaction. The DCS performs well on this measure, with 61% agreeing that it does so.
DCS also has an award winning helpline that frequently manages to answer in excess of 90% of calls made to it.
I'm by no means a fan of DCS but the attitude of some people on this forum beggars belief.
The statement quoted above is tosh of the highest level. Most countries in Europe do not even have a version of DLA, some do not even have a version of IB/ESA. For the poster above to say that this government is trying to "bury" the disabled is just scaremongering.
"• Two in three customers (67%) would speak highly of the DCS and one in four (24%) would do so unprompted - similar levels to previous years." Conversely 1 in 3 customers wouldn't speak highly of DCS and 3 in 4 customers wouldn't do so unless prompted.
I've also taken part in MORI and GALLUP polls - hey, guess what, a lot of the questions are loaded. The most recent one appeared to be looking purely for a good response - extra questions to answer if you had a good report to make, don't bother with the extra questions if you weren't happy with the service you'd received. Oh, and then there was the one on behalf of the present gov. Lots of questions along the lines of "do you think reducing the amount of greenhouse gasses by X% in Y years is a good idea?" No options anywhere along the line to suggest that good ideas they may be, achievable they ain't.
Sorry - I know that those who answer the phones do a difficult job, and in some cases do it well. Sadly, from my own experience, I've been given directly conflicting advice/information using the helpline.
Having said that, my most recent claim went well. It was dealt with quickly and with the minimum of fuss.
Trouble is, when you're feeling low, miserable, in a lot of pain and you've just lost your job because you can no longer physically do it - to then hear the likes of Teflon Tone and his Sidekick Prudence Brown pontificating on how it's the sick, disabled and pensioners who are a burden and a drain on society and how they should really be more productive, and then you're being dragged to the job centre for work focussed interview when you're feeling like death warmed up - it can leave you feeling distinctly got at and unwanted.
Oops, sorry - guess that particular wound is closer to the surface than I realised.s/e0 -
