Micra?

Well my 3yo love-hate relationship with my little red Clio has finally come to an end, as it ripped itself apart yesterday and is a complete write-off. It was too expensive to run, anyway, so this is clearly a sign from above that I'd been faffing about, talking of selling, etc, for too long. Off to the scrappy & I am £50 richer, lucky me ... but one car poorer.

How does the Micra rate as a transport to keep me ticking over until I decide what to do? Seen some cheapie ones under £1k but what about running costs? Any lovers or haters out there?

My wife had a Micra and absolutely loved it. She had a new shape one (03), but I am told the older ones were more reliable, though she had no trouble with hers over four years. Lots of parts are shared with Renault though, so that might put you off.

Not on the older ones, which are far better.

    Older Micra's are fine.

We had a MK1 micra which can be picked upfor a coupl of hundred, it ran like a sewing machine and was 18 years old, no power steerng but it did not need it. Also look at Suzuki Swifts if you want something reliable and economic.

Another vote for old micras from my better half.

She has a 1.0 auto and loves it. Very economical and nippy.

I mentioned to her the other day that she might like to get a newer one and got a look that told me that I would be out of the door before she parted with it :D.

Only problem we have had is rear light bulbs don't seem to last very long.

PS. If I recall her last insurance was only about £80 and we got £30 cashback.

I was gutted when hubby got me my 53 plate one not cos I'm ungrateful but because I loved itso much!!! unfortunately it had developed a driveshaft fault that no matter how often it went to the garage wasnever quite right- the cost of it going in & out of the garage worked out more than buying a new one. I would get the shape think they changed over in 51 plate yr.

    This is all sounding great!
Looking at a blue T-reg in VGC on Wednesday ... VERY low mileage ... almost TOO low, so am taking mechanic friend with me to check everything over! Fingers Crossed ....

I know they say we should take the bus for the environment, but it's been taking me 1.5 hours in and out of the office in the morning (compared to nipping 10 minutes down the bypass in the car) & I can't even reach my evening job by public transport so am very getting shafted!!
