I’m trying to download Eraser which I believe allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive. However, it’s asking me to choose the file that best matches the architecture or operating system. Does anyone know how or where I can find this as I haven’t got a clue?

When you boot up your laptop/pc, do you see the words "Windows XP" or "Windows Vista" etc?
You can also check by clicking on Start>Run and then type winver and press enter. That should give you your operating sytem.“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -
It's windows XP. The computer I'm using is very old that's why the confusion.
I've done the winver thing and this is what came up:
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.080814 Service Pack 2)
And this is the page where it’s asking to choose the file that best matches your architecture or operating system.

You need to choose the EraserSetup32.exe then. ( i386 architecture)
Off topic - I see you only have Service pack 2 - I'd run Windows Update and download Service Pack 3 if I were you. (Better security etc)“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -

I won't be using the computer I'm enquiring about so probably not much use in downloading Service Pack 3. I will bear it in mind though.
