Is it OK to use a generic ps2 memory card?

Please can you tell me if it is OK to use memory cards made for PS2, but which are not "official"? I've seen them advertised on ebay, and of course I am tempted because they are so much cheaper. Or is it a case of you get what you pay for?? ???
So many shoes, so little time....

Yes and no. If you're going for a 3rd party memory card don't go for one with a huge capacity, in my experience the bigger cards tend to develop more faults and lose data

All 8meg (standard) cards I've used have been fine. At the prices it might be worth buying 2 and using one to back up the data if you're worried about corruption.0
