Abbey & A&L

I was very shocked & disappointed to see martin promote the A&L account

A&L are part of Abbey - who are the most complained about abnk according to watch dog

Im just moving away from them but they dont answer letters, dont call back as promised, call centre staff cant even understand your account number unless your from india, they pushed the credit cards from 14.99% to 30% and often the website wont work
Queues in the branches are really long and every day they is some poor guy closing down all his accounts as they really annoy customers

Often the computers dont work so you cant deposit money and old folks are left standing & refused chairs whent hey complain

Matine must be overworked as good value shouldnt mean we get treated like animals

A&L are not part of Abbey - the connection is that they are both owned by the Spanish bank Santander.

My own A&L account has always worked smoothly enough. I do all my banking at my local Post Office (no queues - pity, it needs more customers.) or online and have never been directed to an Indian call centre.

Main criticism - if things go wrong it can be be a slow process putting them right but they very rarely go wrong IME. Whether being owned by Santander will change things remains to be seen.

In my limited experience of Abbey (relative's account) I would agree with you on them though the relative is highly satisfied. Trying to keep the account going whilst registering an LPA has been a nightmare.
