silly, the andrew james one. I don`t have it but I like a rectangular one and I like AJ goods. I would not fill it as full though

I am on my third and last dehydrator. The one I liked least was a cheap round one. I gave my other 2 away over time (30 years) I have a 9 tray excalibur which is superb but v pricey and works every time.

Maybe a silly question :o but how would you use the halogen as a dehydrator? I have been thinking of getting a dehydrator for ages by as I already have the halogen, if I could use that instead, it would save money. I'm just not sure how, sorry :o

unexpected visitors coming for lunch today. Will make easy peasy dehydrated casserole

I have 2 packs of good sausages, put straight in casserole dish, plus 2/3 opened jar of drained chick peas and I have 2 sausage casserole mixes. So

Everything else is dehydrated: am soaking lots of onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, beetroots, in a separate pan sliced potatoes (from 2012) as will simmer for 5-10 minutes

Will add all to the casserole and top with the potatoes plus some bits of butter. Will bake at about 160 for about 2 hours. Should be lovely and with enough left over, to have an easy day tomorrow

    Thank goodness for dehydrated foods

Sounds fab, will all the veg taste like fresh ones or are there some that don't rehydrate as well?

Well that was fab, utterly lovely and seconds were requested. So so quick to do. I simmered the potato slices for 4 minutes but next time would do them for 8. I topped the potatoes with bits of butter. Honestly I was so happy with the meal. The beetroot slices were particularly good, the colour disappeared into the casserole and they became a touch paler but lovely and softer than the potato slices. I am going to grow more beetroot next year, especially for dehydrating. What an easy meal, they must have thought I spent ages in the kitchen but only 5 minutes tbh. It took longer to peel the carrots and cut the green beans

The veg will never taste like fresh ones as the flavour is intensified but a casserole like this takes on an overall taste and I am quite happy to use a casserole mix from time to time

After getting annoyed trying to dehydrate in my halogen - it didn't work very well, just made a mess. I have finally worn my mum down into letting me buy one and keep it in our kitchen - we have a little kitchen so we can't have many appliances and we have a lot of kitchen stuff because my stuff from uni is in the kitchen. She has agreed to letting me get one after I said she could dehydrate her herbs in it so we didn't have to go buy dried parsley almost monthly.

I was just wondering what if anything can I not dehydrate in it as I imagine we will go a little dehydrating crazy in our house. We usually go crazy with new appliances. We made loads of soup when we got our stick blender.

  • Mine arrives this week I am very excited. I am going to dry blackberries to go in to granola bars/cereal and then do some lavender.

I have also looked at Pinterest there is hundreds of recipes.
