Kittie how do you do your kale chips in there please? I do fresh ones in the oven with oil and salt and chili flakes but would love to store some dried ones thanks.

I need to do some more leathers as we've eaten the last batch already! Good job I had lots of fruit frozen.

Yes still drying Kittie, done 1.5 kg onions and rhubarb next. Have empty space in freezer so fill that up first.
  • Not sure if anyone would eat the dehydrated fruits but want to try. I have seen an Andrew James dehydrator for £20, is it worth getting or are they not very good?

Good price MoS, go for it.

Not much to lose and if you don;t get on, would certainly re-sell at that price.

    Thank you :D

DD is hoping to go to uni next year and I thought dehydrating fruit/veg might be quite useful for her when living in halls.

I'm now looking at an Andrew James on fleebay. I enjoy the fruit packs I get from Graze, but I reckon I can make my own for a lot less by buying certain fruits at their lowest price point & dehydrating them.

A Graze box costs £3.89 for 4 small little tubs of various foodstuffs. I can make my own for less.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

I originally bought a Wolff Diane, which I think is identical to the Andrew James. It works very well but the trays are such fragile, brittle plastic they have all broken after less than 6 months.

It was good enough to convince me it was something I would use regularly though, and my new Excalibur was delivered last week.

I've just made my first leathers, using a large can of mango pulp bought from the "ethnic" aisle of the supermarket. I didn't add anything, just poured it straight onto the Paraflexx sheets. The result is absolutely gorgeous.

It is lovely to have fruit leathers and dried pineapple slices handy as snacks also great whizzed with milk or nut milk

I make granola on a regular basis and am now drying some `breakfast toast` made from flaxseeds, goji berries plus other simple ingredients. I`ll just be topping with sliced strawberries or tomatoes when dried in about 10 hours, although I think I will keep it going all night as the crackers will keep much longer. Recipe from http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anis-Raw-Food-Desserts-Delectable/dp/0738213063/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1370362746&sr=8-4&keywords=ani+phyo

Had unexpected visitors yesterday but was able to get a crumble together very quickly using dehydrated apples and bananas with frozen berries. The dehydrator is certainly worth the space and initial cost

Here you go... this may help someone.

Juiceland have got 10% off their Excalibur dehydrators, just enter EXCAL10 at checkout. The 4 tray model is not included, that's what I wanted but I ended up getting the 5 tray.
