Quidco cashback on car insurance - best time?

Hi all

I've been with prudentail car insurance for last two years, always using quidco. I notice its not there at all now!!!

Anyway I look back and remember the cashback going up a few weeks after I renewed both years. I just wonder - has anyone noticed better times to renew with car insurance?

I renew last day of January at the moment, is January usually a good month for cashback?

Out of curiosity how do you plan to change the month you renew the insurance, barring the 10 month accelerator policies it will expire at the same time each 12 months?

I've changed my date a couple of times.

Once I did not have a car for 6 months.

Another time I got a policy that was unsuitable when I read the detail and I cancelled it within the 14 day period (obviously the date only moved slightly in this case).

Firstly I don't really have much intention too I am just curious. I can leave my car off road for a few days to get into February if I wanted as I dont use it everyday.

You can actually cancel most annual premiums whenever you want and get the mjaority of it back pro-rata. So I could sign up to quidco again on another car insurance policy.

I'm not so sure about this.
Pro-rata terms are often highly unfavourable especially short term (might be ok if you've had most of the policy).
There are also admin fees these days which can be up to £50.

Are you sure you are up to date on this.
Things have moved on recently and the currentl business model is to minimise premiums (to get to the top of comparison sites) and charge people for any service or amendments.
If you haven't done anything like this for a few years I think you'll find the pricing model has changed, but you can of course check your individual policy for their pro-rata terms (it often isn't pro-rata but for exmaple 6 months if you have 4 months cover).

In answer to the original question I don't think there are "good" months for cashback.
I think it's arbitrary depending on whether particualr insurers want to increase their market share at that time.

The only time it would make sense to move your renewal date might be if you are young and want to move it after your birthday to gain an age advanatage, but again the only real way to do this is to take your car off the road or if it's a small amount of time perhaps cancel policies within the cooiling off period to move it 14 days at a time.

I bought a Shiela's Wheels motor policy in September via Quidco. But I still haven't got my cashback despite raising queries. Quidco are still looking into it.(I posted on another thread about this)
Remember the cash back is not guarenteed!!!
  • I too do the same as the OP and have noticed a reduction/pullling of really good deals using quidco. Maybe thats due to the ccrunch too. Still there are a few good deals to be had through other companies via quidco RAC etc
