Strange boot up problem

I am unsure what may be wrong but the last couple of days when I first switch on my computer I hear the sound of the graphics card fan spin up and the computer then switches off before getting to the motherboard bios display. After trying again either once or twice the computer loads up as normal. Can anyone suggest what may be at fault?

    Thanks for quick responses.

I will see if I have time at the weekend to open up computer and check that graphics card and memory are fitted ok and also check other connections while case is open. I did put new graphics card in a couple of months ago and it was a bit of a squeeze to fit in.

And worth dusting it all out whilst it's open ... had a problem where fans were coming on more than expected, they had become clogged with dust, but fine now that it's all clean.
