hI,
I did have this setup but I formatted one of the computers and updated my other dell and have now lost everything as I have deleted folders in an effort to try and start again.
Even when I run the networking wizard on XP it does not create a my network places in the start menu?
any help really appreciated?

click Start
click on My computer
It's on left hand side under heading "Other Places"0 -
Right-click the Start button, select Properties, select Customise, Select Advanced tab, scroll down and put a tick next to "My Network Places".scoobysnaks wrote:Even when I run the networking wizard on XP it does not create a my network places in the start menu?

Um you say you deleted folders in an effort to clean things up.
Why didnt you just save important documents then do a factory restore.

I can now see the other computer but can not print to the computer with the printer attached?

An easy job made very difficult by a non techie that has been using pc's for 10 years or more... nothing is ever easy with these things is it?0 -
First make sure that printing works by printing something from the computer that the printer is attached to. Next, on that computer, click Start - Printers and Faxes and make sure the printer is shared. The printer icon should have a little open hand symbol showing this. If not, right-click the printer, click Sharing and choose Share this printer and type in a Share name.scoobysnaks wrote:I can now see the other computer but can not print to the computer with the printer attached?
Next, open Printers and Faxes on the other computer and click Add a printer to run the Add Printer Wizard. Choose 'A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer', then 'Browse for a printer' and select the shared printer from the list.0 -
Alternatively you can manually type in the share name in the form \\computername\sharename or you can browse to the computer with the printer on and double click the printer icon to create a connection.Chippy_Minton wrote:Next, open Printers and Faxes on the other computer and click Add a printer to run the Add Printer Wizard.
