Quote from tiler, sounds steep?

Just got a quote from a tiler which came highly recommended from a friend. The area to be tiled is 10.5 square metres and the tiler will be supplying the grout and adhesives. The price he has given me is £650 total (incl VAT). This sounds a tad steep to me as I thought they charge about £30-35 per square metre and wouldnt of thought grouting and adhesives will cost that much. So does this sound reasonable? I'm in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Seems steep to me, imo £300-£350 inc materials.

What room is being tiled? It makes a difference. What type of tile? This also makes a difference. How many walls are you having tiled? Floor to ceiling?

Soory to ask all the questions

    Hi Jockster,

It is the bathroom being tiled and its only the walls at half height (about 1m high) all the way around. floor is not being tiled and we will be supplying the tiles.

    Thanks for your responses
  • What size of tile? Small mosaic? Or large sized 30cm+?

it will be a 'largish' tile. Still having a look around but it will be no smaller than a 20cm x 25cm tile.
  • For grout & adhesives they should cost around £100 (more than you'd thought?). Is there any beading to go along the top of the tiles? Are you supplying? If not then expect this to be around £3/m for chrome/metal or £1/m for white uPVC. So materials could easily top £120

So labour is gonna be around £500 mark. Got to say it sounds about right as its probably 2-3 days work depending on the bathroom & how quick/good the tiler is.

If the tiler is as good as your recommendation then it looks OK. You are certainly paying top end prices compared to the Central belt. Maybe you want to look at some of the tiler's previous work 1st? Make sure he takes snitary ware off the wall & tiles behind, as this always looks best finish.

    Good Luck
