Problem is, the american consumer doesn't want electric cars. If american car manufacturers made them, who would buy them? They would buy the foreign gas guzzlers instead and leave the electric buggies to the hippies.
Cheap petrol/gas is the problem. In purely economic terms, if we paid the 'right' amount for our fuel, i.e. with externalities such as environmental damage taken into account, the world, and america, would already have embraced electric cars.0 -
The problem is that with the collapse in energy prices, pretty soon the notion of spending money on sustainable energy is going to be unpopular.
We should be using this period of cheap fossil fuel energy as an opportunity to gear up for the times to come. I suspect that it will be the exact opposite that happens leaving us horribly exposed a few years down the line.
I wonder will Obama pull a rabbit out of the hat and go for an ambitious programme of weaning the USA off of it's overconsumption of energy and resultant reliance on foreign reserves? Promoting lots of sustainable generation and mandating a move to electric cars for example would be a great way to pump money into the US auto industry.
Can we not burn rabbits for fuel?
We can speed up their reproduction. you know stick em a nice field of grass put some romantic music on a tannoy maybe put a scented candle in the corner, they'd be shaggin like ....erm....rabbitsHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. In reality I won't be having a house built and I'll have to put up with whatever bad/mad choices the previous builder/owners chose.
We've added a "Heath Robinson" rain water flush to our downstairs loo - dead easy - but I don't think that it'd be too appreciated in rented accomodation unfortunately. (Or I'd send you instructions and a shopping list lol). They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
The Politics Show (11:00 BBC1) featured another group in Langdon (NE of A2 leading into Dover docks).
This time it is five turbines (not three) in the middle of a prairie sized ploughed field.
The local Vicar was wheeled out complaining about potential noise in the graveyard.
An elderly couple living 0.9 of a kilometre away complained that they did not like the look of it.
Nobody mentioned if it would be visible from out at sea, poking over the "white" cliffs.
Personally, I would think the infernal combustion engines, struggling up Jubilee Way out of the docks, are more of a noisy intrusion?

In principle i'm in favour of windfarms, BUT they should firstly be off shore wherever possible as thats where most of the wind is. I don't believe they are as efficient as claimed and they are high maintenance issues too,not to mention around 500 tonnes of concrete under them.
They finished a new windfarm on Romney Marsh(Little Chayne farm) in October, should have been up and running in November and here we are in the middle of January you rarely see 50% (around 14) of them actually revolving.Im sure the poor old farmer got a gr8 big fat cheque for his grief and apparently gets a rental income each year too.
As for looks I think they look ok,just hope there aren't too many birds flying into themas they are on a popular flight path for swans and geese.
My biggest worry is with all these turbines (hopefully) turning at once, given a good Northerlly wind we will end up closer to FRANCE:eek:0 -
Bunch of Nimby to$$ers on that programme -0
