Great 'Best credit crunch work lunch' Hunt: What to make or buy on the cheap.

I've been having couscous for lunch at work. It costs about 60p for a small bag which will easily last a week. You only need to pour hot water on it to prepare it. You can add other ingredients to it - sometimes I roast some peppers and onions the night before and add those or it goes well with leftover/shop bought ready cooked chicken.0

I make it up at home then you can have it hot or cold at work.
Also, Pasta N Sauce packets are great - again, mix sweetcorn and stuff in and 1 pack will do 2 lunches. This is best reheated.
I too love the end of day supermarket reductions but will definitely be checking out the approvedfood site!
I love the Savoury Rice pkts too. I usually add a bit of chicken and/or mushrooms and a drop soy sauce/sweet chilli sauce and it's really nice.
Pasta n Sauce are great too.....favourite is Bolognaise but is very hard to get.
I can usually only get this kind in Asda or sometimes in one of the local shops.

I always take my own lunch. It’s cheaper; you will normally buy better ingredients for yourself because you won’t be buying cheap stuff to protect a profit margin. And you can make the sandwich filling a proper size portion. Cost a few pence versus a rip off £2.50 to £30

Also - Eastern Express Noodles at Home Bargains (by their own "Chef Kuo" brand). They tend to be on offer at 2 for a pound, or 59p each. This is a plastic bowl and pre-cooked noodles, a little bit of dried veggie material, sesame seeds or peanut bits, and sauce. You put it all together and microwave it and it is pretty good, I think. May need to add a bit of soy sauce if you find the sauce in the packet isn't enough.
Aldi's "Go Noodles!" (I think they're called that) in the little cardboard boxes work in a similar way and are delicious. They're up to 1.19 now, though. Then again, the packaging is more environmentally friendly than the Home Bargains ones.0
